Bill Walters used to be a professional poker player before using his skills as a professional sports punter instead. Over nearly four decades, Walters has bet more money than anyone else in history and continued a winning streak that has earned him hundreds of millions of dollars. He’s living proof that sport betting is a game of skill. Like poker, Walters explains that winning sports punters have to analyze information then calculate risk and potential profits. In an interview with CBS News, Walters described his biggest and most audacious bet of all time. The New Orleans Saints were playing the Indianapolis Colts at the Super Bowl in 2010 and the consensus was that New Orleans were the underdogs. Walters analyzed all the information he had and discovered that it actually favored New Orleans as the most likely winners. He looked at the odds, calculated the risk and potential profit then decided to bet big. Walters bet $3.5 million on the supposed underdogs and New Orleans didn’t let him down. They defeated the colts 31–17 to win their first ever Super Bowl.

The No. 20 Villanova Wildcats continue their final multi-game road swing of the season as they visit Capital One Arena to tip off against the Georgetown Hoyas. Villanova has been on a win-one, lose-one streak over its last four games, while Georgetown is looking to avoid a season-long three-game slide. The Wildcats topped the Hoyas 77-65 in early February and are a 6-point favorite in tonight’s game with the total opening at 149 points.

Benter was struck by the similarities between Kelly’s hypothetical tip wire and his own prediction-generating software. They amounted to the same thing: a private system of odds that was slightly more accurate than the public odds. To simplify, imagine that the gambling public can bet on a given horse at a payout of 4 to 1. Benter’s model might show that the horse is more likely to win than those odds suggest—say, a chance of one in three. That means Benter can put less at risk and get the same return; a seemingly small edge can turn into a big profit. And the impact of bad luck can be diminished by betting thousands and thousands of times. Kelly’s equations, applied to the scale of betting made possible by computer modeling, seemed to guarantee success.
One Friday evening that autumn, after the handover of the territory to China, Benter paid for a hotel room in Hong Kong’s bayside North Point district. He made sure to get a space on the ground floor for easy access. He had helpers haul in laptops, a 50-pound printer, and stacks of blank betting slips. On Saturday morning—race day—they checked the internet connection and put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door.
Detach all emotion involved with your personal feelings. Betting on sports has to be a business transaction for you. If you have read any articles on this website before you know that I am a die-hard Giants fan. That said I wouldn’t think twice about betting against the Giants or on one of their rivals. I try to avoid betting on the Giants games at all costs but if there is value in a pick, I will take the other team. If you are testing a new strategy and it’s not working, don’t stay married to it. This goes back to the Quarterback analogy, you have to have a short memory. If you are way too emotional after a loss because of the money you have lost, you are spending too much money and need to think of a new money management plan. Don’t bet with more money than you are willing to lose. Also, you don’t want to bet on a game just because it is on national TV and make it more “fun”. Remember if you want to make money long term, you are not doing this for fun. You are betting on sports because you want to pad your pockets.
Look at the above example again. You and your buddy each paid $10 to the bookie to place your bet. That’s what the standard 11/10 odds in sports betting are all about. You bet the Cowboys and your buddy bet the Redskins, a total of $220 bet. The sportsbook has to pay back $210 to the winner, leaving a nice $10 profit no matter what happens on the football field. That $10 built-in profit is called the vigorish, and it’s the final monkey wrench in the gears of sports betting.
In 2009, animal rights group PETA released undercover video of alleged abuses of former race horses at a slaughterhouse in Kumamoto, Japan. The group stated that "as many as 20,000" horses, including former Thoroughbred race horses, were killed in 2008 in Japan for use as human and pet food[76] (the official figure for 2008 was 15,003 horses).[77] Based on findings of 2009 and fate of 1986 Kentucky Derby Winner Ferdinand, PETA has called ban for exporting race horses to Japan,[76] even though the amount of young horses exported to Japan for racing purposes is insignificant compared to the overall amount[78] and only adult horses exported to Japan are breeding stock.[79]
Did you know that online casinos need to be licensed and regulated in order to operate in different markets? Well, if you’re totally new to the online casino world, this might come as a total surprise to you but it is indeed the reality. Whilst online gambling in Europe is legal in the majority of countries, online gambling isn’t legal in all states in America. And online gambling in States where it is highly regulated. So always be sure to read up on where the online casino operates from first.
Benter, 61, walks with a slight stoop. He looks like a university professor, his wavy hair and beard streaked with gray, and speaks in a soft, slightly Kermit-y voice. He told me he’d been driven only partly by money—and I believed him. With his intelligence, he could have gotten richer faster working in finance. Benter wanted to conquer horse betting not because it was hard, but because it was said to be impossible. When he cracked it, he actively avoided acclaim, outside the secretive band of geeks and outcasts who occupy his chosen field. Some of what follows relies on his recollections, but in every case where it’s been possible to corroborate events and figures, they’ve checked out in interviews with dozens of individuals, as well as in books, court records, and other documents. Only one thing Benter ever told me turned out to be untrue. It was at the outset of our conversations, when he said he didn’t think I’d find anything interesting to write about in his career.

This part is going to take time to develop an eye for value. Going line shopping can be one of the most stressful parts of betting on sports. Searching through all the sportsbooks to find the right line is crucial to your overall success. An example is if you saw a game you liked on betonline.ag with odds -110, you are doing yourself an injustice by not looking to see if better odds are on a different sportsbook. 5Dimes offers reduced juice so if you can get that game at -105, why would you not take it? Yes, at $100 bet it’s only a 5 dollar difference but over a long period of time, this reduced juice adds up. If you are betting more than $100 a game there is some serious value in reduced juice. That’s why 5Dimes is my favorite sports book (Read my review on 5Dimes Here). The Juice (or Vig) are how the bookie makes money. If you are going to take away some of the juice, you are essentially taking away some of the bookie’s advantage. At 10% juice, your winning percentage needs to be 52.4% in order to break even. If you are reducing that 10% you are putting more profit into your pocket. The best in the business try and find positive value as much as possible. The best handicapper in the business in finding positive value is Rocky Sheridan. Rocky actually only has a winning percentage under 51% overall. You’re probably thinking “how the heck can he be one of the best handicappers in the world with a winning percentage under 52.4%. That’s because Rocky’s speciality is finding positive value in picks. Check out his stats:

This kind of deep and detailed inspection allows us to capture those little details – the ones that might make all the difference. From noticing that the pitch might not be conducive to players who like it on the deck, to finding the hidden link that keeps the team ticking is missing, we help to spot the little bits of analysis that determines the outcome of a match indirectly.
The traditional high point of US horse racing is the Kentucky Derby, held on the first Saturday of May at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Together, the Derby; the Preakness Stakes, held two weeks later at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland; and the Belmont Stakes, held three weeks after the Preakness at Belmont Park on Long Island, form the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing for three-year-olds. They are all held early in the year, throughout May and the beginning of June. In recent years the Breeders' Cup races, run at the end of the year, have challenged the Triple Crown events as determiners of the three-year-old champion. The Breeders' Cup is normally held at a different track every year; however, the 2010 and 2011 editions were both held at Churchill Downs, and the 2012, 2013 and 2014 races were held at Santa Anita Park. Keeneland, in Lexington, Kentucky, hosted the 2015 Breeders' Cup.
The eligibility of racers is checked the day before they are raced. Before the race, jockeys weigh out and report to the paddock for instructions by trainers and mount up, the identity of the horses having been checked. Horses and riders proceed to the track in a parade to the post for the stewards’ (race officials’) inspection and a brief warm-up gallop. Horses are almost universally started from electrically operated starting gates, the horses being walked or led into their stalls prior to the start of the race. The starter actuates the upward swing of the barrier from the stalls when all are in place. During the race, stewards and patrol judges are alert for racing violations, supplemented by a motion-picture patrol. The finish is photographed by a special camera, and, when the race is close, the picture is awaited before winners are announced. The race’s result does not become official until the jockeys have weighed in and the riders of horses that finished in the money are certified to have carried the proper weight. At weighing in, a jockey, owner, or trainer may claim foul against a horse that interfered with his mount. The judgment of the stewards may result in a horse being lowered in order of finish from first to last. The stewards declare the race official, and then payoffs are flashed on the totalizator. Postrace urine tests are made of winning horses and a sample of the field, and if results show the presence of forbidden substances, the results may be changed on payment of purses but not on bets.

Of course, if you win at sports betting, it is no good unless you ultimately get paid. Make sure you bet with highly respected books for the most part, but don’t be afraid to take a shot at a smaller, up and coming book. Read up online about the book and find out what others are saying. Try the live chat and see what withdrawal options they have. Maybe start off with a small deposit and then withdraw after a few weeks and see how they treat you. If you are getting endless emails and vague answers, it might be best to avoid this book. Initiating a cashout during peak times (NCAA March Madness, Super Bowl, World Cup) might be a good idea, since the books will probably be flush with cash and able to pay to keep the business going.
On the whole, the casinos performed well, with just a few minor exceptions worth mentioning. The Microgaming casinos I reviewed, 32Red and Betway both felt a little bit dated, especially compared to the likes of 888casino, which was slick and well presented, both the downloadable software and the instant play version alike. As for LeoVegas Casino’s platform, the site is very bright, inviting and full with high-quality NetEnt games, yet there was a distinct lack of information available. It was a good job the customer support agents were on the ball and able to quickly answer the many questions I couldn’t find the answers to on the site itself.
The information for withdrawals from an account will be similar to the deposit section. Bank and wire transfers tend to take the longest period, as well as a physical check if that is an option from that casino. Again, know the minimum and maximum withdrawal amounts allowed per casino before depositing into an account. One thing players should pay attention to is which methods accept both deposits and withdrawals; specifically, the way players are considering to use the deposit. Sometimes, players may have to use separate methods, which could extend how long it takes to have access to funds or include additional fees.
Throughout 1997 a shadow loomed over Hong Kong. After 156 years of colonial rule, the British were set to hand the territory back to China on July 1. There were news reports of Chinese troops massed at the border, and many islanders feared it would be the end of Hong Kong’s freewheeling capitalism. China tried to reassure residents that their most treasured customs would be protected. “Horse racing will continue, and the dancing parties will go on,” said Deng Xiaoping, the former Communist Party leader.

There are particular leagues and tournaments that are more popular to bet on than others. For example, sporting events such as American football, NBA basketball, NHL ice hockey in general has more bettors flocking to bet on it than a European competition. But there can be more value found in those tournaments that fewer bettors wager on. Our tipsters are aware of this. That’s why you’ll find tips on leagues and competitions from all over the world.
The current world of online casinos has been called a “bonus culture”. Bonuses are the primary way by which casinos compete with one another. The most popular form of a bonus is a percentage match on a player’s first deposit, often called a “welcome bonus”. A player who takes a 100% match bonus on a €100 deposit, for instance, will begin with a bankroll of €200.
The alternative draw is so popular, because usually the odds are very attractive. A classic strategy is to consequently bet on a draw until it happens. Of course you always need to keep an eye on the odds. The idea behind this alternative is to double the stakes until the draw becomes reality. Given you start with stakes of 5 £ on a draw of 1. FSV Mainz 05. You best choose the team with the most draws in the ranking. This is just a strategy and no recommendation, since you can also get rid of your stakes very fast.
Blended Citizen eats up the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) - Saturday, Blended Citizen held off Pony Up by a neck to win the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) at Turfway Park while favorite Hazit stumbled and finished last. Also on the card, Go Noni Go won the Bourbonette Oaks (G3), Camelot Kitten won the Kentucky Cup Classic, Alternative Route won the Rushaway, and Sky Flower won the Latonia. Japan has two governing bodies that control its horseracing - the Japan Racing Association (JRA), and National Association of Racing (NAR). Between them they conduct more than 21,000 horse races a year. The JRA is responsible for 'Chuo Keiba' (meaning 'central horse racing'), taking place on the ten main Japanese tracks. The NAR, meanwhile, is responsible for 'Chihou Keiba' (meaning 'local horse racing'). Racing in Japan is mainly flat racing, but Japan also has jump racing and a sled-pulling race known as Ban'ei (also called Draft Racing).
I was on Youtube today and someone was comparing the first race of Hidden Scroll to the first race of Justify (both earned 104 BSRs for their first race)......it's still too early to tell but maybe Justify will eventually replace Secretariat as the new Gold Standard for young horses.....how long before a bronze statue of Justify replaces the bronze statue of Secretariat at Belmont Park Race Track?.....the times are a changing that's for sure...

The earliest races were match races between two or at most three horses, the owners providing the purse, a simple wager. An owner who withdrew commonly forfeited half the purse, later the whole purse, and bets also came under the same “play or pay” rule. Agreements were recorded by disinterested third parties, who came to be called keepers of the match book. One such keeper at Newmarket in England, John Cheny, began publishing An Historical List of All Horse-Matches Run (1729), a consolidation of match books at various racing centres, and this work was continued annually with varying titles, until in 1773 James Weatherby established it as the Racing Calendar, which was continued thereafter by his family.
Flat racing is the most common form of racing seen worldwide. Flat racing tracks are typically oval in shape and are generally level, although in Great Britain and Ireland there is much greater variation, including figure of eight tracks like Windsor and tracks with often severe gradients and changes of camber, such as Epsom Racecourse. Track surfaces vary, with turf most common in Europe, dirt more common in North America and Asia, and newly designed synthetic surfaces, such as Polytrack or Tapeta, seen at some tracks.
