travel_vic · On the old show Who Wants to be a Millionaire, one contestant tapped out when the question was asked with 4 options: Who was on the cover of Newsweek, Time and Sports Illustrated all the same week and the options were Muhammad Ali, Mickey Mantle, I think a tennis champion and Big Red...The contestant had no idea and guessed wrong. · 3 hours ago
Colourful racing silks are a familiar element of horse racing, and their introduction dates to the formal organization of the sport in the 18th century. Though they primarily serve an aesthetic purpose in the modern sport, their original use in racing was to allow spectators to distinguish one horse from another during races in an age before television and public-address systems. To this day horse owners must register a unique pattern and set of colours (worn on the jockey’s jacket and helmet cover) with a regulatory board.

Flat racing is the most common form of racing seen worldwide. Flat racing tracks are typically oval in shape and are generally level, although in Great Britain and Ireland there is much greater variation, including figure of eight tracks like Windsor and tracks with often severe gradients and changes of camber, such as Epsom Racecourse. Track surfaces vary, with turf most common in Europe, dirt more common in North America and Asia, and newly designed synthetic surfaces, such as Polytrack or Tapeta, seen at some tracks.
Notable racehorses from New Zealand include Cardigan Bay, Carbine, Nightmarch, Sunline, Desert Gold and Rising Fast. Phar Lap and Tulloch were both bred in New Zealand but did not race there. The most famous of these is probably Cardigan Bay. Stanley Dancer drove the New Zealand bred horse, Cardigan Bay to win $1 million in stakes in 1968, the first harness horse to surpass that milestone in American history.

If you play at a land-based casino in Atlantic City, you’re going to want the licensed NJ online casino that’s attached to that Atlantic City casino, and you’re going to want to earn points and comps for your play. That’s one of the great perks of online casino gambling in NJ, but it’s important to note that not all online casinos in New Jersey offer the same level of integration between online play and land-based rewards – a difference we try to note in our NJ online casino reviews.
MacKenzee Hansen · That would be disgraceful for justify to even come into comparison with secretariat. Justify was not a great horse nothing compared to secretariat and it kills me so many people think he's the cats meow. If he becomes a standard that sinks lower for any horses racing after 3 years of age and more and more stallions in a shed that truthfully haven't accomplished much. And I totally agree southern humor this is why more and more horse racing sinks downward. Oh my god steroid era?? At least secretariat beat unrestricted races and raced after the triple crown. Plus horses justify beat and 2 I can think of off hand HAVE NOT WON A decent RACE SINCE HE BEAT THEM. I cant believe people like you who worship this horse it's literally insane. Ps.... justifys derby time was the 4th worst from 1960 to now. · 3 hours ago

Benter, 61, walks with a slight stoop. He looks like a university professor, his wavy hair and beard streaked with gray, and speaks in a soft, slightly Kermit-y voice. He told me he’d been driven only partly by money—and I believed him. With his intelligence, he could have gotten richer faster working in finance. Benter wanted to conquer horse betting not because it was hard, but because it was said to be impossible. When he cracked it, he actively avoided acclaim, outside the secretive band of geeks and outcasts who occupy his chosen field. Some of what follows relies on his recollections, but in every case where it’s been possible to corroborate events and figures, they’ve checked out in interviews with dozens of individuals, as well as in books, court records, and other documents. Only one thing Benter ever told me turned out to be untrue. It was at the outset of our conversations, when he said he didn’t think I’d find anything interesting to write about in his career.
The length of an endurance race varies greatly. Some are very short, only ten miles, while others can be up to one hundred miles. There are a few races that are even longer than one hundred miles and last multiple days. These different lengths of races are divided into five categories: pleasure rides (10–20 miles), non-competitive trail rides (21–27 miles), competitive trail rides (20–45 miles), progressive trail rides (25–60 miles), and endurance rides (40–100 miles in one day, up to 250 miles (400 km) in multiple days). Because each race is very long, trails of natural terrain are generally used.
